Sleeping for Science

⛵️ I started the week with a visit to my mother’s house to help her with the ongoing process of sorting through my dad’s things. One day, after our errands were done, we spent the afternoon at the beach. I posted a few other pics from that trip here, here, here, here, and here.
📱 I upgraded my iPhone 13 Pro to iOS 18 and am enjoying the new features.
🧠 My wife and I enrolled in the Cleveland Clinic Brain Study, a massive longitudinal study that seeks to understand what happens to the brain in the years before cognitive illness is diagnosed. As participants, we engage in a battery of tests and scans including a sleep study. So we spent the weekend giving blood samples, taking tests, getting optical scans and MRIs, and sleeping for science. And we get to keep going back every year for up to 20 years. So to the good folks at CCBS, see y’all next year!
🇮🇹 While we were in the area, we made a quick stop in Cleveland’s Little Italy neighborhood to get pizza from Mama Santa’s and some amazing treats from Corbo’s Bakery. There are tons of restaurants, bars, and shops and we only just got a tiny taste. We definitely will need to head back that way again soon!
⚫️ When I heard about Coca-Cola Oreos, I knew I had to get my hands on some. The multicolor, popping candy-infused cookies are gimicky but they’re fun so I’m going to enjoy them while they last!
👕 Graphic tees are a major component of my daily wardrobe so I thought I’d start sharing some here. This week’s fit is Buffalo Bill’s Body Lotion.
🔫 Somewhere along the line, gun violence became a routine part of life here in the States. While becoming a victim of a shooting remains a statistical improbability, that’s cold comfort when your kid can’t leave the library because a suspected shooter has taken refuge in the building. Everyone is fine here, but it pisses me off.

🎃 I made a batch of the Pumpkin Spice Syrup that Andy Carolan shared recently. I didn’t include allspice and mace in my mix like he did but it turned out pretty good anyway!
Take care of your brain. See you next week!
