Mikey Crossing the Fifty (Weeknotes #25-15)

Bits and Pieces
-
In what has now become something of a tradition, we ran the Ohio State 4-Miler. The course runs through the Ohio State campus and the finish line is on the 50-yard line inside Ohio Stadium. My time was 6 seconds slower than last year, but I didn’t injure myself and I felt a lot better afterward. So I guess that’s a good thing.

My employer is now demanding that anyone within 25 miles of a tech facility be present in the office at least three days a week. The physical environment is pretty bleak, being almost completely devoid of color and light. I have colleagues who are still working from home because there’s no room for them at the office. The restrooms are conspicuously oversubscribed as well. It’s nice to see people face to face and I’ve had some meaningful in-person interactions, although I’ve yet to have any actual in-person meetings since the people I work with most are either across town or in another state. But I have a standing desk and my noise-cancelling headphones so it’s all good.
After a 7-year hiatus, Digg is returning! For a $5 fee, I joined as a “Groundbreaker” and secured my username. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens here. Thanks to Lou for the heads-up on this!
Web Dev
- Updated my weblog design and fonts. Again.
- I built a new automation for my web page that mirrors pictures that I post to some.pics as “micro” posts (aka Notes) here on my blog, which are then picked up by EchoFeed and posted to my Mastodon account. Also have this in place for my photo account.
Media Consumption
📚 Reading
- I started reading Children of Ruin by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, Children of Time, so I’m looking forward to where the author will take the story.
📺 Watching
- Hacks. I really love this show, and it’s back for a fourth season. Only problem is that now we’re caught up we have to wait a week between episodes. Light the olden days.
- Shrinking. Finished season 2. Great show. Will there be a season 3?
- The White Lotus. Finished season 3 and it was okay, I guess. Not great, but not bad. Relieved to finally know the outcome, though the endings of this show are never happy or satisfying.
- Parallels. I watched this because it was written by Quoc Dang Tran, who also wrote Dix Pour Cent (aka Call My Agent!) and Drops of God. Amazing writer. I can’t wait to see what he does for HBO.
- Running Point. Watched all of season 1. Pretty good.
- The Studio. Watched the first episode, might hang on for a few more to see where it goes.
- Zero Day. Massively problematic plot, but interesting enough to see it through. I have seriously mixed feelings about casting DeNiro here—but not about his performance.
- Deli Boys. Watched the first episode... not sure about this one.
